WORK EXPERIENCE PROGRAMME DATES

Application deadline: 20 March 2026 at 23:59 – Any applications received after the deadline will not be considered.
THE ROLE
- A one week insight into working at a pro bono centre and the legal profession for those who are thinking about studying law or in the early stages of their legal education.
- Tasks could include legal research, drafting documents, presentations and client interviewing. We aim to provide both written and oral feedback and match the tasks to your interests.
- You will have the opportunity to meet and/or speak with our qualified lawyers and caseworker volunteers to learn about their careers and ask any questions you may have about life in the law.
- Occasionally, there may be the opportunity to sit in on client calls or go to court, but this is dependent on the matters that the Law Corner is working on at the time.
TIME COMMITMENT
- The role will take place remotely, but will have a scheduled visit to the Living Centre (by King’s Cross) at the end of the week to give your presentation and/or meet the team and your fellow work experience students. It will also be an opportunity to find out about the other ways in which the Living Centre helps the Somers Town community and to ask any questions you may have.
- The programme is generally scheduled for 9-5, Monday to Friday.
- We have some scheduled sessions that are not able to be moved, including the visit to the Living Centre and group sessions.
- However, when and where you complete the tasks, as well as the meetings with our volunteers, is for you to decide. Therefore, as long as the work is completed on time, you have some flexibility to organise your time around any other commitments that you may have on that week.

Q: Which programme am I best suited to: the Internship Programme, the Work Experience Programme, or the Insight Scheme?
A:

If you are a GDL graduate or a law student in your second year or above, you are best suited to our Internship Programme.

If you are a first-year law student, a GDL student, or a non-law student or graduate, please apply to our Work Experience Programme.

If you are at school (GCSE, sixth form, or A-Level), please apply to our Insight Scheme.
Q: Is there an interview process for the Work Experience Programme?
A: If your written application progresses to the next stage, we will invite you to a short interview in-person with the coordination team after the application deadline.
Q: Do you consider applications on a rolling basis?
A: No. We will review all the applications once the deadline has passed.
Q: Am I able to complete the 50-hour pro bono requirement for the New York bar exam with the Law Corner?
A: Unfortunately, the nature of our work experience and internship programmes mean that we are not able to guarantee that you would meet the 50 hours required for qualification. Therefore, this type of pro bono experience is not something that we can currently offer.
Q: How long will it take to hear back on whether my application has been successful or not?
A: We will aim to let you know whether or not you have been successful with your application within two weeks after the deadline has passed. However, this may take longer depending on the team’s availability and the number of applications we receive.
Q: Can I apply directly for a caseworker role?
A: No. Caseworker roles are filled from among participants in our internship programmes.
